Kristian's Massive Album Review Thread (K-MART :P)
Give your ratings on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being the worst crap you've ever heard, and 10 being an album you'd be willing to worship and enlighten
people about religiously Jehovas Witnesses style.
Please use the following formatting on your review:
| Code: | Artist - Title (Year)

[Write stuff here. Try to describe the album's style, atmosphere, how it makes you feel etc.]
Rating: x/10 |
Meh, it's supposed to say more that artist-title(year). Just quote this post to get the correct formatting as easily as possible, or just do it as
seen on the other reviews.

Mr. Oizo - Analog Worms Attack (1999)

This is probably the weirdest album I've had the pleasure of hearing. I haven't heard a lot of Aphex Twin's stuff, but i'm guessing this goes into the
same category.
Mr. Oizo aka Quentin Dupieux sure loves his distortion effects. The album has funky beats and squelchy bleeps and beoows all over it. The thing that I
love about this album is that it's not pretentious at all. His titles are just my kind of things: "Inside the kidney machine", "Miaaaw", and "Last
night a DJ killed my dog" are titles that reflect the content surprisingly well. Down-to-earth and just weird.
The album requires a bit of patience though, as it some places gets repetitive. The scratching parts don't really appeal to me either. I'm guessing
the perception of repetitiveness differs depending on whether you're listening or just nodding your head. All in all, I recommend this album if you
want to explore some new music.
Even though most tracks are good, the highlight is definitely the hit-song "Flat Beat". It just puts a smile on my face, and I'm sure some of you have
heard it before. If not, youtube it.
Conclusion: A weird album which gives one images of green chemical gooey stuff and ketchup. Although slightly repetitive, it's a great album to nod
your head to. I reckon in this world of pretentious music, this is a fresh breath.
6/10

Oasis (What's the story) Morning Glory? (1995)

I had only heard a couple of songs by Oasis before, and heard they were quite good. I decided to have a go at their second album.
I cannot emphasize enough how good this album really is. I mean, all the songs are either really good, fantastic or just great. Except from the two
"untitled" tracks, which are really transitions between songs, you can pretty much get all of the songs stuck in your head, and it will be positive
head-stuckers.
I've been humming "Don't look back in anger" all morning, and it's just so immensly great. All songs are definitely highlights by themselves, but the
guitar-solo part in "Champagne Supernova" takes the cake. Damn that's awesome. I think this may be the best album I've heard. At least one of the five
best.
I can't think of more to say than: Get this album. It's essential in every music lover's collection.
Here are some live videos with songs from the album:
Don't look back in anger
Champagne Supernova
Conclusion: This album is fucking awesome. Get it now!
9/10

Nice reviews there Kris, I got interested on the Oasis -album, though I must admit that if I remember correctly I've never liked Oasis that much,
hehe. You'll get an album review from me as soon as I buy something new

You should check it out for sure. It's easily up there musically with Ulrich Schnauss. That's just my opinion though

Well, it's not the same kind of music, but I'd say it's close to, or just as good.

I just heard Oasis - Definitely Maybe. It's more standard rock stuff and it's just as good as the other album. Excellent music =)

Trentemøller - The Last Resort (2006)

I have sort of split feelings towards this album. Mostly positive though. The main thing is that the tracks often have a great, haunting atmosphere
and lots of glitchy stuff. These are the tracks that I love. There is very little that can be described as cheesy, as this is a very artistic
album.
Disc 1 is better than disc 2, but there are some great tunes on disc 2 too. The downside of the album for me, are the minimal progressive techno-ish
boring tunes. I'm not that much into that kind of music, but it's still pretty good. Not something I'd listen to a lot though.
Conclusion: Great sounding, sophisticated album. Slightly let down by some boring tunes, but the more atmospherical ones make up for it big time.
8/10

Ulrich Schnauss - A Strangely Isolated Place (2003)

This album contains some of the best electronic music I've heard. Unlike most electronic music today, this album sounds warm and is rich on melody and
atmosphere.
There are three tracks that are good, but I just don't like them as much as the rest of the album. "A Letter From Home" is just one of those songs
that don't grab me at all. "Clear Day" is divided into annoying "before-main-parts" (in lack of a better term" and good main parts. It's a shame that
the before-main-parts ruin it a bit. "On My Own" is let down by that awful space-cat-sounding lead.
The rest of the album though: oh my god. It's just amazing, and you need to hear it for yourself. Tracks 1, 4, 6, 7 and 8 are fantastic, especially
track 6 "Blumenthal", which is nearly perfect imo. I'd say these tracks are masterpieces, which are a true joy listening to. It is true that most
music nowadays, especially electronic is boring, generic, sounds like everything else etc. Schnauss' music on the other hand just has a great sound to
it.
Conclusion: This is probably the best electronic music I've heard. Get this album. You won't regret it at all!
Kristian's Rating
8.5/10
Aku's Rating
8.5/10
Also check out his first album "Far away trains passing by". It's almost as good as this one. I'd say that one's an 8/10. Can't be arsed to review
it though

Autechre - Draft 7.30 (2003)

Forget what I said about Mr. Oizo being weird. THIS is weird! The music is the most technically advanced I've ever heard, and there is very little
melodies at all. Still, it sounds really musically; at least to me.
A couple of the tunes, sound like they were made just to be glitchy as mthrfckng hell, but most of the tunes have some delightful subtle musicality in
them. And of course glitch
I'd say 6 or 7 out of the tracks are good or really good. The rest is ok, but slightly boring. The best tracks are 'Xylin Room", which reminds me of
Crash Bandicoot, '6IE.CR' which has fantastic beats and 'Reniform Puls' which has a great atmosphere. I suspect there's a fart sound somewhere in
'Reniform Puls" though :p
Conclusion: I think this is the kind of album that needs many listenings. Even though it's pretty difficult to get into, it gets better for every
listen.

Clark - Body Riddle (2006)

This is one of the most interesting albums I have purchased recently. Even though it's clearly electronic music, it sounds so organic. The sounds are
great, the style is very creative and the melodies are really good. I got the album less than two hours ago and it's already on repeat for the third
time.
It pleases me to hear someone make something as unique as this. It sounds familiar in one way and totally individual in another way. I don't know any
better way of describing this album as just "really really good".
Rating: 8/10
The rating seems fitting at writing moment. Hopefully, it will stay the same later
Edit: Lowered rating cause the album wears out quickly. Or because I overlistened it in a too short period of time It still rocks my socks though!

Sigur Rós - Takk (2005)

Can't really be arsed to give a more detailed review, so I just say it shortly: I had heard this album a million times through, but I just bought the
actual album not so long ago. This is surely one hell of a good album, or at least for me it is. I still and espicially love
"Hoppipolla" and "Heysátan".
Sigur Rós makes very original and unique music and it's also so damn good. One of my favourite bands at the moment for sure. "Takk"
offers you an amazing experience throughout.

It's really too bad that Heysátan means "the hey stack" and not hey satan
I'd give the album an 8/10

Hey Kris, if you want to, you can add my vote to Ulrich Schnauss's "A Strangely Isolated Place" I too think that it's a 8.5 -album

Explosions In The Sky - All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone (2007)

I just saw this band on Conan some night and decided to *ahem* acquire their newest album. This is music I've been looking for for a while now, it's
fantastic! It's like sort of Coldplay confronting Sigur Rós, but there's no vocals at all, just cool, relaxed and soothing sounds throughout. The
album itself is fantastic and there's also a remix album featured, so it's a double-cd. This is probably an album I'm going to buy in the future and
I'm also going to keep an eye on this band.
I'm recommending this album to espicially Kristian, as we both have pretty much the same tastes when it comes to music like this. I don't like Kris's
IDM-material though, so Kristian tends to go a bit weirder than me, haha. Anyways, it's a brilliant album and everyone's who's interested should check
it out.

Yeah, I've heard about them. I have a couple of mates who are really into Sigur Ròs, Explosions In The Sky, Patrick Wolf and Xiu Xiu. All some sort of
weird electronic music mixed with other stuff... Haven't had a chance to hear Explosions In The Sky yet though...

No, you didn't. It must have been someone else..
.. I actually found Sigur Rós by accident when I was *ahem* acquiring New Age -music a "long time" ago. Sigur Rós's name popped into the search and I
decided to *ahem* acquire their album as everyone was complimenting it. Well, at the first listen it sucked real hard and I deleted the album as I
didn't like the music at all. A long time after that I started to listen everykind of original and new stuff, and Sigur Rós was recommended to me
again. Well, I decided to give the band another chance and *ahem* acquired their album again. This was the time when their music was actually amazing
and I immediately started to adore their music! It was fantastic!
Kinda weird that I didn't like them at first. I think it's just that I wasn't as "open" to music as I am now, so I just needed a little bit more time
before I was ready again
